Getting Across

A Documentary About Seeking Asylum in the UK in 2020-2021
About the Film
Getting Across is a story that follows the progress of a journalist as he gains an understanding of the conversation surrounding the UK's asylum and refugee resettlement process in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and the final stages of the government's Brexit negotiations.

To tell the whole story of this highly politicised and clandestine issue, Jordan Fermanis interviewed a number of experts and activists that appeared in the media and compared their views with the stories of real asylum seekers and refugees in the UK.

As he learns more about the issue, Jordan reflects upon the refugee story in his own family and considers the humanitarian values that countries like Britain have historically established. The film shows how those values are being threatened with impending policy change and attempts to understand what we can do to help.
